I reckon so. (The Wisdom of Josey Wales)

Now remember, things look bad and it looks like you’re not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. ‘Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is. — Josey Wales

It’s D-Day in college basketball. So we go to the great philosopher Josey Wales for wisdom in these times that try men’s souls.

Carolina v Duke. South v North. Locals v Migrants. The people v The elitists. The blue bloods. Basketball excellence separated by eight miles. The greatest rivalry in all of sportsdom. And there’s even more to it today.

The winner takes the ACC regular season title, a number one seed in the ACC tourney, and the inside track on the #1 seed in the East Regional, plus the bragging rights that go along with another banner. This stuff is intense. Mrs. BBE may have to strap me down to something.

In times like this, it is good to call on the wisdom of one of the most intense movies this country has ever seen: The Outlaw Josey Wales.

(On Duke): To hell with them fellas. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms.

(What if Duke plays like their lives depend on it?): Dyin’ ain’t much of a livin’, boy.

(What is Duke going to do to PsychoT?): They say he’s a hard put and desperate man. They’re goin’ to heel and hide him to a barn door. You know what I say? I say that big talk’s worth doodly-squat.

(So Hansbrough will have his way?): Hell is coming to breakfast.

(Will Carolina win?): I reckon so.
